There are a few possible reasons why the British don't seem to be taking the threat of terrorist attack particularly seriously.
Maybe because we have a better sense of perspective, (more people are killed in car accidents each year in the UK than were killed in the 11/9/2001 attacks), maybe because a significant chunk of the population can remember the blitz, maybe we're more used to it after the IRA stuff....

...but for me, it's because I know just how pathetic these so called terrorists are. They certainly don't beget terror in me.

I am well aware that there are a load of highly dangerous Al-Qaeda guys out there, and that the original Al-Qaeda was made up entirely of the toughest most devout veterans selected from the Mujahideen Freedom Fighters of the 80s....and on a related note, I'm aware that there's a new Rambo film being made.....I don't know what the plot is, but assuming it involves Islamic terrorists it'd be nice if they were played by the same actors who fought along side him in Rambo III...not gonna happen but be cool if it did.....what the hell was I saying...right....I'm aware that there are dangerous terrorists out there, but they are mostly busy blowing the fuck out of Iraq.

The people over here who watch and endlessly quote the Bin Laden tapes, moaning on and on about The West oppressing them...are not scary. They are the electrictoothsyndromes of the Muslim world....I think the events of the last few days confirm this....

Lets recap.

Car 1.....crashes into some bins near a nightclub, when the Bouncers go to investigate the driver runs away. Bomb is found and disarmed....described as an extremely crude device.

Car 2.....is taken away by the traffic police, because it was illegally parked. bomb is found and defused, unofficial 'leaks' are implying that the bomb would not have actually gone off anyway, as the mobile phone trigger hadn't been made properly.

Car 3.....two guy attempt a suicide attack on glasgow airport. yes, 'attempt'. not only did the burning vehicle fail to injure anybody or do anything more than superficial damage to anything, the would be terrorists were able to get out of the car and try to run away.

If your suicide bomb is so weak that it doesn't even kill the suicide bomber....you're doing something wrong.

Is a failed suicide bombing even more pathetic than a normal failed suicide attempt?

There were a few pics made along the lines of 'owned' pics....but they said FAIL instead......I would make one for this if I could be bothered.
Fail.
Fail a million times.
Fail ain't the half of it.

4,000 Non-Islamic civilians
5,000 Soldiers/security personnel etc

I was so devastated by yet another attack on our fragile democracy, that I was too scared and rattled to go to the faggot parade in London on saturday.

That is the reason I did not go...

there are a bunch of TVs in front of cardio machines at my gym. you can toggle the channel to get the sound feed of each channel in ur headphone.

CNN had that car burning in that airport in fucking loops for the whole 2 hours i was there, while all other local news channel barely mentionned it.

i tuned in to listen to what they had to say and it was so fucking dramatic: "tell us x-reporter, are the british going on with their lives? are they very afraid right now?"

it was so over the top, for a moment i thought they were joking.

my point is, "terrorism" wouldn't be so bad, we'd barely hear about it if americans stopped crying like a fat woman having a conniption over a tiny spider.

the world is no less dangerous than it was before 9/11, yet everyday sounds like the fucking apolypse. if anything, the only reason "terror" related risks are increased is because of the ridiculous reactions following those events.

Well, seeing as how I have to leave for the airport nine hours early in order to catch my flight on time, and I can't take my fucking deodorant and shampoo on the plane with me, AND I have to take a high dose of Xanax just to be able to not fiend out once I actually make it on the plane... I can't say the terrorists are winning, but it is a good solid draw.

The fact propane was used is an interesting development.

Other substances used as fuel for car bombs and the like (fertilizer, etc.) are pretty heavily regulated and the means by which to track such purchases and raise alarms have been in place for some time.

A young Brit of south Asian descent buying propane would not have been as suspicious.

Just because it didn't work this time is no reason to believe it won't the next.

As much as authorities will glean from the incident, the enemies of the state will, too.

Failure is a great way to learn.

Some of your points are understandable but naive.

Arguably, it's important for these terrorist networks to at least show their presence, and even if the bombs themselves were complete crap it does at least expose how vunalerable we are to these type of events no matter how many billions we waste on the depatment of homeland security or whatever the British have over there.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that people should be scared or building a bomb shelter or doing anything but going about their everyday normal lives because like you said you have a much better chance of dying in a car wreck and most people, myself included, never hesitate going anywhere in a car because they fear for their lives.

Hearing that the 3-day at Edgebaston has been rained off would affect my life more than any of these terrorist threats.

I simply will not stay locked in my house afraid of the outside world. I am British, and my ancestors did not to hide and cower from that which seeks to cause fear!

That's the French.

It is the most pathetic weak attampt at terror in the history of terror... yet still... STILL... the public will be all 'scared' and the politicians (Oh look... we have brand new ones that need to prove a point) will line up to 'get tough'.

Its a fucking pathetic joke.

_______

I bet the guys who were working the door of Tiger Tiger don't think it's a pathetic joke.

I firmly agree with this post, but I know if I was working as security at a night club in london, I would be a little on edge.
------

LM, you are probably sitting next to something more dangerous than these bombs.

The joke is that this is not terror, these are not professionals, they are garden shed bombs. Yet we are still led to believe that a 'global terror' plot was foiled.

_______

Agreed, but I don't care wether someones trying to kill me with a kitchen knife or an nuclear bomb, the intent is the same. Just because if it went off it wouldn't have taken out half of london and killed thousands, doesn't make it any the less intimidating for the people it was a threat to. Thats all I'm saying.

You're missing the bloody point. There's a new british PM, what makes you think he didn't orchestrate finding these "failed bombs"? So people can think he's doing a great job. Wake up. If someone wanted to blow something up, they would.

In my opinion, it's rather convenient as a new PM comes to power, he gets 'results' that Blair never did.

I could just be paranoid, but does anyone agree?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No, no-one intelligent enough to actually manage to cast a vote thinks that Brown found these bombs, or anything he did differently to Blair filtered down fast enough to affect finding theses bombs. They were found by bouncers/ambulance and a traffic cop.
