Because we're super gay obviously.

Anyway, to cricket!

Because of our general, massive, inferiority complex beating the English is how we define our entire notion of self worth.

So naturally, we are extremely nervous about losing the ashes again especially as only about 18 people play cricket in England.

We're rubbish at rugby now too, the sweet chariot swings very low when we play England when it matters, and of course the saffas and kiwis twat us all the time.

The Americans rule at swimming now. Still there's rugby league!!! Because lots of people outside of the north of england care about that! we could have a world cup every 6 months!

But I digress.

A solid start from England.

P.S

I'm gay and lonely.

Ponting got a great reception when he came out to bet, probably something to do with having two bloody lips and no teeth left but still.

Phallic, im not sure money and population has much to do with cricket, we only see ourselves as underdogs because you have been so much better than us for fucking years and have a different mental attitude that seems to get one over on us everytime. Also, the thing is, we arent that great really. Our attitude changed in this match, came back from losing by an innings to beat you by nearly 200 runs. I think that's what were happy about.

I've had a bit of a think about things and yep, yesterday was still awesome.

That wicket was shit though, good job the Aussies decided to run each other out and generally fall on their stumps. I was getting concerned that I'd have to bunk off school today.

From the BBC itself, a place that usually has at least a relatively opaque patina of objectivity:

"victory in The Oval sun was reminiscent of England's famous 2005 Ashes win"

It's this attitude that makes England struggle. The belief that "we're supposed to lose but it's nice when we don't".

You've got 5 times our population and probably 20 times our money, stop playing the bleedin' underdog.

I'll compliment you on a series well won on one condition.

If you agree that our teams are now reasonably comparable in skill (which I think is pretty clear), you can no longer refer back to prior victories when they are no longer the most recent.

In other words, have one year of gloating to your heart's content but, if we win it back next year, you can no longer say "What about 2009?! What about 2005?!". It's a level playing field now. Glory goes to the team that most recently won it.

But well done to everyone except Freddy who i still think is a douche who believes himself to be the messiah.

seriously, hussey essentially carried his bat, and ponting was looking even more solid than him. without that runout, those two would still likely be out there. one bad call for a run and the match is over.

still, it never should have got to that point. some more aggressive decisionmaking in the first test and this doesnt happen at all. that first draw cost us the series - not just the result, but with the win there, englands attitude would have been completely dfifferent. ah well, good series again, see you in 18 months for your 5-0 unwatchable drubbing over here.

well done england. you got a couple of chances in teh field and took them. first freddie with his runout of ponting. jeez hes a cock, though. if he had the same accent, same everything, but wore a baggy green, you cunts would have been booing him more than ponting.

then clarke. how freakishly unlucky, but a well-taken chance. those little things are the things we are sposed to do to teams.

mike hussey gets a hundred, but runs out the captain (and the guy who was really the only chance of saving the match), and basically loses us the game. absolutely no need for that run whatsoever.

We need to lost the ashes more often. That way, England won't be able to claim underdog status and quote 5 year old victories as some amazing achievement. It's basically a level playing field now anyway, you guys shouldn't get too excited about winning.

i have watched a baseball game. i found it overall very slow. though i saw the end of a yankees/mets game a few weeks ago that was really entertaining, the yanks were 1 down in the bottom of the 9th, 2 guys on bases and i think rodriguez (though i cant exactly remember who) came to bat, skied a ball super high, high enough to give the guys on base time to run in, fielder gets under it its a total sitter and dropped it.

@ skeletess: think of it like baseball, only that it takes five days to play, yet ironically, somehow manages to be slightly less slow - but not by much.

also, increase the overall skill level, and take away the orgasmic release of the home run. baseball is about providing enough time to create a single memorable moment. a cricket test match (there are 3 different formats of cricket) is about an accumulation of moments that (hopefully) build to a dramatic crescendo.

when 5 days of tactics and slander and panic and bravado and deteriorating pitches and ragged nerves and bloody-minded concentration somehow manage to boil down to the last session of play, down to the last few moments before the fading light of day and we have to accept, not simply obey an arbitrary clock, but accept that - yep, the day is done; thats when this slow, boring, somewhat confusing game really comes into its own.

---

not trying to start an argument, just a question to frame some things up for myself:

have you ever watched a baseball game?

also, can someone provide a link where i may watch some of this krikkit?

58/3 at the cop, reckon we will get a similar score to you.

even North looks dangerous and Johnson produced a few brutes of deliveries.

this match is a draw. england will bat for a bit too long, then be unable to reproduce this insanely amazing effort theyve managed in the first innings, and we will actually escape with a draw.

this sums up pontings career as a captain. he should never have been skipper. it should have been warne, then clarke. great batsman, in the top 3 ever - outside bradman, of course - but a shit captain.

warne apparently actually put his hand up - the selectors said no.

wisely, i think.

he retired, let him remain retired. we need some other bowler to come in and be useful. we had two amazing legspinners come up at the same time in warne and mcgill - warne of course was better, but mcgill was better than any other spinner ive seen who doesnt cheat - yes im looking at you, subcontinent, yes ALL of you, and now we have fucking hauritz, who is about as dangerous as swann.

though, we have to give them a crack. our problem now is that we expect any cunt who has a 6-pace walk-up before bowling to throw down the ball of the century every single delivery.

the problem is warne was a freak - legspinners are supposed to go for runs, but get wickets (which is exactly what mcgill did) he somehow managed - if he wasnt going through the top order like a dose of salts - to lock down an end.

how the fuck is an upcoming bowler supposed to live up to that?

nothing beats a consistent line and length. glenn mcgrath basically became one of the best 3 fast bowlers ever based on it.

seriously, fuck our selectors. clark bowls from the first match and this game is a dead rubber.

they even had the hide to act all hoity-toity after the last win like it was them out on the field. they got utterly lucky with watson (which was a terrible selection, based on panic, and completely the wrong point of view - our bowlers are underperforming, quick, lets drop a batsman and put in another part-timer, holy shit he got some runs, guess we're fucking geniuses then, isnt that lucky?) and they made out like that justifies every fuck up theyve made since warne hung up the playboy g-string.

Haik-

I got curious too yesterday and found a link to live streaming video of the match. Their server is apparantly down and EI was no help stating that his link was at home and that he was at work shouldering his share of the white man's burden.

Which I think was some gay code or something.

Otherwise, I'd throw the link up here.

Anyway, being a Yank and never exposed to this particular sport, I had no earthly idea what I was seeing.

About the only thing I was able to do was pick out the names of the players the Brits and Aussies hate.

I do see why they call Ponting a smug cunt. He did have that look about him.

australia, going through the first 'rebuilding' phase in 20 years, still has more than enough to mop all of you up without batting an eyelid. the closeness of the series has been purely because of bad play on our behalf, and poor captaincy (let alone our selectors). if we were to lose this series, it was because we played badly, NOT because your side did anything particularly noteworthy.

3 LBWs not given and two wickets of no balls that werent picked up in our innings, the cricketing gods are spitting in our pasty white faces.

I cant believe Bell is still getting stick for not going on to get a hundred. he batted really well and was out on a no ball. what can he do about that? some people are never fucking happy.

============

Yeah that was a shame.

If Harmison can get his shit together and Fredalos knees don't totally collapse I reckon England'll win. A good bit of spin from Swann will help too!

i think most people think 300 is a poor score as the pommy bowling attack hasnt really looked threatening for much of this series.

think of the one we 'were lucky to get a draw out of' - if theres not 2 days of rain, it would have been a different story - clarke and north have been carving your attack up at will.

collingwood looks like a fish out of water

i pray that we bowl the correct length when the aussies bat, we cant let them get away to a flyer.

Trott was very unlucky indeed. Given that the pitch is looking a bit fucked, it could be an interesting day - make 350 or so, bowl out the convicts for 300 then give them 450 or so to aim at with plenty time to get them out.

good point hurty, i think its because the wicket is pretty good, most of the batsmen have got themselves out and i just think most people reckon the sussies wont do that, they are in no rush and under no pressure.

Bell and Trott batted well.

Trott was very unlucky.

Id, you should get the game "Cranium". It's basically pictionary but with more things (like clay sculptures, blind drawing, moulding your partner's body into a position etc).

Get 4-5 mates, a big bag of weed, heaps of edibles and cranium and that's a great social night smoking bowl after bowl and laughing your face off.

============

They've stopped making it, in the UK at least, but it's a fucking class game.

Also, junkies, what of the cricket?

Why does everyone think that 307/8 is such a shit score? Granted it's not the best it could be, and another 50 runs would be nice, but it's a test match for fuck sake - the first innings isn't the end of it!

just interested if anyone has ever had any luck with legal highs?

i tried spice gold the other day and although when smoked, tasted a bit odd, it had a pretty good and lengthy effect

unsurprisingly they are trying to ban it now

yeah, acid will ALWAYS blow your mind... but over the decade or so i toyed with it? the later times, last couple years or so, were definitely not nearly as intense as the times i dropped the first few years.

i agree with you about weed being a social thing though. not a babble on and on i'm-so-super-popular-and-witty coke sort of thing, but definitely a group sport if you want it to be.

i think youve been lucky with your procurement of it.

i didnt say anything about acid being for sitting indoors - i posted a story here about one of my birthdays a mate and i took a bunch of acid and went to a rodeo. usually when i take acid, its at some place, like theme parks, or festivals etc. apparently (this is what i heard from a mate who used to deal it) most acid you buy now (and apparently has been so for ages, without either being lucky or having rock-star connections) is dregs.

weed i dont feel is social at all, personally it makes me paranoid and less communicative (though the funniest moment of my life was whilst ripped), and in general i think of weed as an 'end of night out' sort of drug.

as i said however, i am the worlds lightest lightweight, particularly with weed.

and by no means am i some sort of hardcore badass drug-veteran who can one-up your tales of use and abuse with vastly more debached stories. i take drugs maybe once every few months, tops.

Weed not being social. I love smoking with/around people.

Something you said earlier about acid being for sitting indoors and shrooms being for going outside for adventures. I love doing anything on both, ranging from rolling around on my bed pretending to be a sea monster to running around sand dunes.

Something you said about modern acid being weak or something. Acid blew my brains out pretty well.
