I want to move up north. A place where my footprints are unmistakable in the fresh blanket of snow, where mine is the only dog that wields free reign over the land I claim. She will be white, likely a husky, and I will love her. I will not give her a name, but she will know who she is. I will have no neighbors, and I will answer to nobody, for I will be the only one for tens of miles around. I will chop wood, tend to my plants, and pet my dog. I will sit in front of the fire at night and marvel at the chaotic randomness of the flames. I will have a chimney made of cobbled stone and mortar that will vent the sweet smell of wood smoke into the eternal winter, billowing out unabated into the crisp and cold air; my very own beacon in the massive expanse of wilderness. My cabin will be made of strong hardwood logs, and I will be proud of it. I will have poured my entire being into constructing it, overlooking nothing, and striving for perfection. It will be a tangible extension of me, and it will be my humble kingdom.

I will not have a calendar, nor will I have a clock. I will sleep when I'm tired, and awake when I feel refreshed. I will treat each day as the one before it: a day I'm alive. I will hunt animals for food and fur, but I will not set traps to catch them, and I will show mercy. I will be at peace with nature.

My dog will not have a leash or a collar, but she will respect me as her master. I will give her food and water, and I will venture into the woods with her. She will roam her domain at her will, leaving only paw prints in the snow. She will chase other animals, and sometimes she will kill them. She, too, will show mercy, as her instincts and upbringing would have taught her.

I will love myself, my dog, and my freedom. I will move up north.

ICO, I don't think I said 'we' anywhere, and I confirmed this with the mighty control-F. Even if I did, I don't see how else 'we' could be interpreted as anything but myself and my dog. And thanks for pointing out the chaotic randomness... that makes no sense, but it still sounds kinda cool. Thanks for the reviews!

It made me smile. I canoed for a month up north in august... north north. I'm talkin above the treeline north. It was tough, but man, it is the life. It wasn't raining for only two days. You could see your breath in the tents. We canoed 12 hours a day. The food was shit, and I didn't see another soul for the whole time. But dammit... I loved it.

ahem, what in grieving Disneyland is "chaotic randomness"? OOH, you mean chaotic randomness, as opposed to orderly randomness? nice way to sound cool. - 2

+ 2 for wanting to be a lumberjack.

There are perfectly good answers to those questions, but they'll have
to wait for another night.
