You know what I hate? After the presidential debates when they ask the campaign managers who they think won the debate. Uh...what the fuck do you expect them to say? That their opponent won? Wow, looks great for your candidate doesn't it? Just another example of American stupidity.

I have no idea how this relates to the title of the post.
But to answer your question, I think that the American media just realized that America is full of idiots. So they figured.... "Why the hell should we bother working and waste all our time in hard research, when we can just slop some sensationalist crap together to entertain the masses? Not to mention the fact that *that* will get better ratings."
And so, the media shirked its duty.
