I realise that ubersite is not traditionally the forum for posting this kind of thing, and I'll probably annoy loads of people by doing so. My rationale is that ubersite is about just letting a website exist and see what happens, so anything goes and that the project described is short by a few people and this seems like an ideal way to spread the word to loads of people. So, I'm not sorry to have posted this, but I am sorry if you're irritated by it. I've tried to include as little in the way of person information as possible (such as the name of the organization) just for security-type reasons.
From July 1st to 31st 2006, Robbooker Voluntary Organization is running its annual 'Summer-Escapes Ghana' programme, which allows you to spend four weeks in Ghana doing community work and exploring the country.
Week one is an orientation week of language-learning and cultural immersion in Kumasi.
Weeks two and three are community-work weeks, in which you teach kids English, maths, sanitation and the like and visit various relevant places, like a local orphanage.
In week four you get to explore Ghana, visiting a variety of places, like the Owabi forest, Cape Coast and the Ashanti palace-museum.
The programme costs $1500(£850), not including flights. Because of the nature of the project, it would be possible to fundraise the costs if you're skint.
You are also able to go as a small group if you don't want to go alone.

My dad is the director of a charity that works in Africa (including Ghana) and he not only knows the guy who runs the Robbooker programme (and can thus vouch for his non dodgy-ness) but also has access to various bits and bobs of extra information that I can pass on to you.
Don't act too slowly though - the deadline for applications is fast approaching.
Oh and if you did want to pass this on to anyone you think might be interested, I wouldn't complain.
