She began as shallow whispers in October
When leaden hearts, unswayed by sodden autumn winds,
Spawned clenched hands and furrowed brows,
Dewy sideward glances and pursed lips

As blood and breath flowed through her,
Hands began to yearn, while softened brows
Framed glances turned inward
And lips turned upward
Into plaintive, pensive smiles-
worried, wanting, and waiting

She blazed forth as a sunburst in June,
And all in her presence took heed
Mother's milk turned fear into wonder
She was here, she was ours, she was love

The summer's swelter could not quell
Her blooming, beaming spirit
The kind that made men move mountains
And women sing starry hymns
One tender blossom, sweet and strong,
Saved souls and raised the heavy hearts

Then, like ink stained on gray canvas,
The blackbird set to flight
That cold January night
With not a moment's notice
A gasp, a choke, and she was gone
She was gone

Our wretched cries, our desperate pleas
That rattled earth and shook the skies,
Were helpless to amend her cruel fate
And under winter's white blanket,
A tiny oaken box was entombed
Amidst wails of kin and darkest dirge

Her sweet swan song
Haunts me still
The fairest of all
Our Bella Blue is gone

Rest in peace, Isabella.jpg (99 kB)

"She blazed forth as a sunburst in June"

The second time through, that's where I choked up.

Lovely poem, and not merely overblown emotional catharsis - I love this.

Thank you, Circe.

That means something coming from you. Sincerely.

If you read only one heartbreaking poem this year, make it this one.

My alpha, my omega
Sweet and silver sounding savior

Whether it's ridiculous
Or cuts down to the quick of us
In the end we'll always be
My diamonds, your mahogany

I walked the Uber wide and wild
Where rabbits roam and emus smile,
The miles below my feet left sole
And soul together tired; but rest
I found in seas of scarlet, she the
Red-locked former harlot, I a poet
Searching for a muse to mend my rhyme;
The waters of my Magdalene
Washed doubt away and on my skin
The touch of inspiration came as
With her hair she dried the douse
And dose, the woman's trick, the
Lines were penned, the posts were
Clicked, and in the streets of
Bartville minus twos were seen as crimes.
If hard times come for Mags and me
With "oh noes," there's a remedy:
We skate it off by hopping on a
Plane to Honalee.

Why wouldn't you share the story with Uber?

i liked it.

also the best writing is always the personal stuff you don't want to share.

Thanks, everyone.

I considered not sharing this story with uber; it's really very personal to me. But I'm glad to know it's appreciated.

Look at you coming out of your shell and such.

So this IS personal, huh? I was wondering when I read it. It reads like you 'know' what you're trying to say - it carries that undefined nature of a subject that you don't need or want to hold anyone's hand for while they read it.

Nice split from the rhyming form, too.

That was very pretty and I'm sorry for your loss.
If it makes you feel better you can come over and cuddle.

Reminds me of Nevermore's "Dreaming Neon Black" album.
Well written, loveslave.

(DISCLAIMINATOR: Nobody here likes Nevermore or much less knows who they are- but if anyone actually does then they are worthy of a blowjob on my part and totally see where that comment is coming from)
